Class Schedule
Depending on individual circumstances, some of our teachers may need to ask their students to wear masks.
The Art Center offers adult classes in a variety of media throughout the year, primarily in the summer months. These are taught by well-known artists from the area and beyond, as well as by Art Center artists. Intergenerational and youth classes are provided as well.

“Painting Skies in Pastel”
with Lydia Pottoff
We’ll capture the color and personality of the sky at different times of day: morning, afternoon and evening to understand how the changes in the temperature of the light affect both the color of the sky, the clouds and the elements in the landscape. In these studies, the sky will be the focus taking up the majority of the composition.
Lydia is an award-winning artist whose studio is located near Lyons. She received a BA in fine art and graphic communications at Metropolitan State University in Denver, and over the last twenty years, she has pursued pastel and oil painting, both plein air and studio. “Impressionistic Florals”
Painting with Cathy Goodale
Paint a floral in an impressionistic style rather than botanical thinking. The use of color and pure pigment colors will make this easier, while mixing nature’s greens will be the other challenge.
2023 will present another fabulous opportunity to paint with well-known local artist, Cathy Goodale, who will be teaching monthly from February through December 2023 at the Art Center. Sign up for any number of classes in advance or one at a time, as the year progresses. Each class will meet from 10 am to 4 pm in the Art Center classroom, unless otherwise noted. Students will provide their own supplies/equipment. Bring a sack lunch or grab something quick nearby. Cathy’s phone number: (970) 227-8577 in case you have specific questions about the classes themselves. The Art Center will handle all reservations, payments, and other housekeeping details.

“PaintingWater and Reflections in Pastel”
with Lydia Pottoff
We’ll explore painting reflections in both still and moving water. To paint believable reflections we need to consider our viewpoint, the color and depth of the water, and how shadows and surface air is affecting the water. We’ll paint ‘vignettes’ that focus on a close up of land and its reflection. Bring your pastels and dive in!
