"Delve Deeper Into SoulCollage®"

with Mary Mesropian

SoulCollage® is a creative and transformative process, in which you create your own personal deck of cards and consult your life questions using recycled images, your intuition, and your imagination. The method of SoulCollaging develops creativity and intuition and encourages self-discovery. SoulCollage® meets you wherever you are on this journey called life. You don’t have to be an artist to make SoulCollage® cards. Anyone can create and enjoy this powerful practice.

These cards delve deeper into the SoulCollage® world for those people interested in building a deck of SoulCollage® cards. There are 4 suits in a deck: Committee, the psychological dimension of your being; Community, the social dimension of your being; Companions, the universal human experience; Council, archetypal stories that link our personal stories to the larger stories of myths and culture.

Mary will provide all supplies necessary for this class, but please bring your own scissors with you!

After many years of working in social services, Mary Mesropian found her way back to art in retirement and trained to become a SoulCollage® facilitator in 2022. SoulCollage® combines her love of creating collages with combining a bit of the spiritual and the psychological.

"Nuno Felt Wrap"

with Cari Cook

In this class you will make a lightweight, beautiful, one-of-a-kind wrap. I will provide you with the softest of wools and hand-dyed silk. We will spend the day learning the basics of nuno felting. This class is suitable for teens and adults. Bring a friend or have a mother and daughter day out. Your kit fee of $35 (payable the day of the class) will include all the supplies you need. Contact me at least a week in advance to pick the colors you want to work with. caricolleencook@gmail.com If you have any questions or want to sign up at the last minute, email me and we can talk about what colors I have available.  Wear comfortable shoes, bring an apron and be prepared to have fun. We will take a half hour break for lunch. There is a sample of this wrap in the gallery. Come try it on and see what you will be creating.

Cari Cook’s work as a fabric artist began 12 years ago and continues to evolve as she pushes the boundaries of what she can do with wool. She combines the softest of wools and miscellaneous fibers with her own hand-dyed silk to create hats, bracelets, vests, jackets, shawls and bags. Her designs reflect her love of horses, the beauty of nature and impressionistic art. Cari and her husband reside on a small farm in Longmont, CO, and she’s not in her studio, you can find her on her horse or working in the garden. Her website is: www.thequiltedhorse.net

“Painting Fall Aspens in Pastel”

with Lydia Pottoff

We’ll capture the color and personality of a group of aspens in fall color. We’ll first examine the structure of the tree and then develop a small study to guide us in color and design and simplification. We’ll discuss how the use of close value and temperature relationships hold the mass of the tree structure together. This will help us avoid the pitfalls of “spotty” foliage. We’ll also look at how we can use supporting elements in the landscape to direct us to the focal point in our design.

Lydia is an award-winning artist whose studio is located near Lyons. She received a BA in fine art and graphic communications at Metropolitan State University in Denver, and over the last twenty years, she has pursued pastel and oil painting, both plein air and studio. She is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of Colorado.

Materials/Supply List: Provided (Note: Please read carefully as several things have changed this year, and students are expected to bring a couple of new items with them for class this time around.)

"Pojagi: Traditional Korean Needlework"

with Alice Ridge (Alice Ridge Quilts)

Alice Ridge hails from Indiana and has been a quilter for over 40 years and a Traveling Quilt Teacher and Speaker for some time. When not teaching and speaking, she travels internationally to learn more about the many, many different types of quilting and needlework techniques around the world. She says, “Quilting is my passion! I am a wife, mother, sister, & grandmother, but primarily — I am a quilter!”

Pojagi is an Ancient type of needlework from Korea. Alice will bring many different pieces for everyone to look at. Typically the pieces are made from either silk, or raime (a plant fiber), and were originally used as utilitarian wrapping cloths. Today, Pojagi is an artwork all its own with designs ranging from simple to intricate.

In this class we will make two projects in the style of Pojagi, a pincushion in silk, and a small mat using Korean raime.  All supplies for both projects are included in the class kit that should be purchased directly from the instructor on the day of class for $30. Participants only need to bring general hand sewing supplies, i.e., – thimble, small scissors, etc.
