Class Schedule

Depending on individual circumstances, some of our teachers may need to ask their students to wear masks.

The Art Center offers adult classes in a variety of media throughout the year, primarily in the summer months. These are taught by well-known artists from the area and beyond, as well as by Art Center artists. Intergenerational and youth classes are provided as well.

If you would like to register for a class, you can contact the Art Center by phone and pay with a credit card (during gallery hours), drop by the gallery in person to pay by check/cash, pay by check through the mail, or use online registration/payment by using the sign-up links provided below. You will be provided a secure connection to PayPal for credit card payment.

​

If you pay using PayPal, PLEASE include the student's name under "instructions to merchant" at the PayPal site. This will insure that your payment is properly credited. Thank You.  Art Center Members receive a 10% discount on adult classes.  Not a member?

"Kaleidescope Triangles"

with Deb Coombs

Come join us and learn how one triangle duplicated 5 times can make a kaleidoscope! You’ll be able to turn your triangles and reassemble them to make three different designs! If you can write your name, you can Zentangle®! You do not need to be able to draw! You’ll be guided step-by-step in the Zentangle® method – one stroke at a time! Come experience the joy of Zentangling and its unique meditative and mindful practice. Deb Coombs is a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT), long-time member of the Art Center and long-time resident of Estes Park.

 

Materials Provided by Teacher as part of Class Fee: Deb will provide 6 (plus a spare) 3Z tiles (triangles.)

 

Students Will Provide: Micron Pen 01, graphite pencil, white charcoal pencil and 2 tortillons plus enough tortillons to blend the pastels – total of 5. You will also need 3 colors of pastel pencils (2nd choice- watercolor pencils with brush.) If you have taken any of Deb’s beginning classes then you may already have most of these supplies. If not, you may want to purchase a basic supply bag available for $8.00, containing a Micron Pen 01, a graphite pencil, white charcoal pencil, 2 tortillons, 2 white Zentangle® tiles, and a bookmark with the eight Zentangle® steps listed. If you need more tortillons – she has those, too.

"Helpful Drawing Suggestions for Painting Outside"

We will paint on location and apply 9 drawing suggestions that will help you draw the subject you want to paint. When a subject is not drawn well it diminishes the overall painting. Bring a notebook for the discussion on drawing skills and your outdoor painting equipment.

Students will provide their own supplies/equipment. Bring a sack lunch or grab something quick nearby. "Landscape Painting in Oil or Pastel – From Photos"

with Cliff Austin

Cliff is an award-winning fine artist whose studio is in Aurora, CO. A graduate of the Denver Institute of Technology and the Rocky Mountain School of Art, he has been painting (both in studio and en plein air) and illustrating since 1980.

 

This exciting two-day workshop will give students the opportunity to explore various techniques in oil and pastel for approaching landscape painting and for planning ahead… including creating notans. In addition to “how to” demos and tutorials designed for each individual’s natural way with pastels or oils, there will be plenty of one on one and ongoing critique.

"Translucent Tiles with Tea Lights"

We will be making two square tiles that can be displayed separately or back to back. These beautiful tiles lend themselves window hangings or votives, hence the tea lights, perfect for a holiday setting! One of the tiles will have the tangle Turkitail – just in time for Thanksgiving!

 

You do not need to be able to draw - if you can write your name, you can Zentangle®! Come experience the joy of Zentangling and its unique meditative, mindful, and stress reducing practice. Deb Coombs is a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT), long-time member of the Art Center, and long-time resident of Estes Park.

 

Materials Provided by Teacher:

Teacher will provide 2 TranslusentZ tiles, one tea light, string to copy on to tiles, and will have pastel pencils and special metallic markers for students to borrow.

 

Students Will Provide:

Micron pen 01 and 10 (or 08), Graphite Pencil, and 2 Tortillions (You are welcome to bring your own pastel pencils so that you can choose your own colors.) Note: Colored pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolor markers are NOT appropriate for this project  *If you have taken any of Deb’s beginning classes, then you may already have most of these supplies.

 

*If you are new to Zentangle® a Supply Kit is available for purchase for $8.00. It contains a Micron Pen 01, a graphite pencil, white charcoal pencil, 2 tortillons, 2 white Zentangle® tiles, and a bookmark with the eight Zentangle® steps listed.

"Kintsugi: Mending Toward Newness"

with Kurt Caddy

Kintsugi is the 14th century Japanese art of mending broken vessels with gold. This workshop is a hands-on creative experience in which participants will experience and learn the basic skills needed to mend a broken vessel. Each participant will break and mend a replica of a Japanese tea bowl. All materials and tools including a hand thrown tea bowl are included.

Kurt Caddy is a visual artist based in the Ozarks, near Springfield, Missouri. He specializes in abstract painting and sculpture, with a distinctive visual language characterized by heavy textures that create depth. He then applies layers of transparent color, building a rich palette of warm and cool tones that harmonize with the composition to create a beautiful work of art. His artistic concept is to bring beauty from brokenness.

​

Kintsugi, the 14th-century Japanese art of mending broken bowls with gold, perfectly aligns with his artistic vision. He leads workshops and exhibits his work across the country. He is represented by the Obelisk Gallery in Springfield, The Revealed Gallery in Charleston, SC, and The Creo Arts Guild in Wilmore, KY.

"Let’s Throw Some Paint Around"

Let it happen! We will be outside the Art Center with buckets of water and paint. Join us for a color study of warm and cool colors. Sometimes the paint will suggest a subject for your creation, or you can bring photos of birds, flowers, animals or another idea that might interest you. It is amazing what you learn when you play with paint and color. Bring several pieces of watercolor paper. We will throw 3 or 4 sheets of watercolor. We will move inside to evaluate and paint.

"Painting Winter Whites"

We’ll study edge control and will be using a limited palette of complementary colors or a split complement. Bring some photos of winter landscapes. You will learn how beautifully these subtle gray colors can work together.
