Class Schedule

Depending on individual circumstances, some of our teachers may need to ask their students to wear masks.

The Art Center offers adult classes in a variety of media throughout the year, primarily in the summer months. These are taught by well-known artists from the area and beyond, as well as by Art Center artists. Intergenerational and youth classes are provided as well.

If you would like to register for a class, you can contact the Art Center by phone and pay with a credit card (during gallery hours), drop by the gallery in person to pay by check/cash, pay by check through the mail, or use online registration/payment by using the sign-up links provided below. You will be provided a secure connection to PayPal for credit card payment.

If you pay using PayPal, PLEASE include the student's name under "instructions to merchant" at the PayPal site. This will insure that your payment is properly credited. Thank You.  Art Center Members receive a 10% discount on adult classes.  Not a member?

"Landscape Painting in Oil or Pastel – From Photos"

with Cliff Austin

Cliff is an award-winning fine artist whose studio is in Aurora, CO. A graduate of the Denver Institute of Technology and the Rocky Mountain School of Art, he has been painting (both in studio and en plein air) and illustrating since 1980.

This exciting two-day workshop will give students the opportunity to explore various techniques in oil and pastel for approaching landscape painting and for planning ahead… including creating notans. In addition to “how to” demos and tutorials designed for each individual’s natural way with pastels or oils, there will be plenty of one on one and ongoing critique.

“Paint the Fall Colors"

Painting with Cathy Goodale

We will paint Plein Air if possible. The study for the day is to paint your subject in bright sunlight and then in a different light like dull over-cast, threatening storm, dusk, fog? Think out of the box! When values are the same or nearly the same… connect them. Translate the visual world into SHAPES. Give the same authority to the shape of a light as you do the shape of an object. Eliminate an edge to form a new shape. Hard edges describe borders-abrupt turns- high contrast. Soft edges suggest indistinct borders- gentle curves- low contrast.

2022 will present another fabulous opportunity to paint with well-known local artist, Cathy Goodale, who will be teaching monthly from March through December 2022 at the Art Center. Sign up for any number of classes in advance or one at a time, as the year progresses. Each class will meet from 10 am to 4 pm in the Art Center classroom, unless otherwise noted. Students will provide their own supplies/equipment. Bring a sack lunch or grab something quick nearby. Cathy’s phone number: (970) 227-8577 in case you have specific questions about the classes themselves. The Art Center will handle all reservations, payments, and other housekeeping details.

“Fun and Messy with Watercolors"

Painting with Cathy Goodale

Today we’ll be creating some fun by throwing color and paint around. Watercolor is the best media to use because it can be very fluid. We will work outside to start the day and keep the mess outside. We will finish the painting inside.
