"Zentangle® Ribbon Spectrum"

with Deb Coombs

We will be painting primary and secondary colors on seven tiles, then adding Zentangles® to those tiles. Once completed, the tiles will be connected by a ribbon in spectrum order. We will probably not have enough time to finish the entire project in class, but you will have enough info to finish at home. There will be an option of adding a second set of tiles to the backs of the first and using printers’ primaries and different tangles, if desired.

Come learn the exciting art of Zentangle®! You do not need to be able to draw – if you can write your name, you can Zentangle®! Come experience the joy of Zentangling and its unique meditative and mindful practice. Deb Coombs is a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT), long-time member of the Art Center and long-time resident of Estes Park.

Materials/Supply List: Provided. Listed are the items students are expected to bring to this class and items the teacher will provide to each student.

Why Does Color Get All the Glory When Value is Often Ignored?

with Cathy Goodale

Look at a group of flowers. Are you drawn to the subject because of color or the lighting? Can a value study improve your painting? Maybe a black and white study? Value can be the power and a great way to get color changes from the color in the light as it changes in the shadows.

Structures are the April Challenge

with Cathy Goodale

We will use notan studies which only see two values (light and dark) to study the photos of structures that interest you. Bring 3 or 4 images to study plus tracing paper and a drawing pencil. As we choose our subject and understand the values, we will end up with more than two values. Limiting your values is as important as limiting your palette.
