Jim Yenter

Jim spends winters carving small intricate caricature animals and summer time chainsaw carving bears, moose, coyotes, and eagles etc.

Jim started carving with pocket knives and handmade tools in the 1970's and tried working with chainsaws in 1992. This proved to be an enjoyable and interesting activity and he carves animals that are different from the normal chainsaw carvings, none of his carvings are made on a duplicating machine, each one is an individual carving.

Jim uses fire to blacken his chainsaw carved animals. Burning gives the animal a colorful rich patina that shows through a thin application of deck oil which prevents the sculpture from drying out.
